Many over-the-counter products are available from various companies that promise the desired whiteness. Various toothpastes, creams, powders, whitening pens, mouthwashes, gels, express strips, and complete whitening treatments are available. These products promise to give you a bright white smile from the comfort of your own home. However, a dentist should be consulted when purchasing these products. If you have gingivitis or gum disease, or if you have cavities, crowns, or fillings in your front teeth, you should be warned that this whitening treatment is not suitable. It is also recommended that before using these products, you visit a dental hygienist and have your teeth professionally cleaned of plaque and pigmentation so that the active ingredients can penetrate your teeth. However, over-the-counter products contain very few active ingredients, so the after-effects are not as noticeable. In such cases, it is recommended that the patient see a dentist and ask him or her to suggest a more effective treatment.

Teeth whitening by a physician
1. Home whitening
2. Office whitening
Home whitening – For this method, a so-called carrier is used. A thin layer of whitening gel is applied to the carrier and the patient learns this method at home under the professional guidance of a physician. The physician usually prescribes a quantity to be used 4-8 hours a day for 5-14 days. The disadvantage of this method is that tooth sensitivity may increase because the product interferes with tooth enamel.

Office whitening-Performed in a dental office, it neutralizes deposited pigment and whitens the teeth to their natural whiteness. A special whitening gel is applied to the teeth and the teeth are exposed to ultraviolet light from a whitening lamp for 15 minutes to activate the whitening process. This is repeated 3-4 times. Of course, there are more methods offered by doctors today.
