Observatory and Planetarium in Hradec Králové



The observatory began construction in 1947 and was completed in 1961. It houses both the Solar and Ozone Observatory, as well as part of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and the Academy of Sciences. 
 
In this great observation deck there are many attractions. It not only boasts top-class telescopes, photo rooms, projection planetarium, but also a new digital planetarium. He also owns the Foucault pendulum and many other instruments and equipment.

The telescope in the main dome is magnified by up to 250 times, the small Zeiss projection planetarium is 6.5 meters in diameter and the digital planetarium is 12 meters in diameter and projected at 4K resolution. 
 
The digital planetarium was completed in 2015 and can accommodate up to 100 visitors. It is projected using velvet Zeiss projection. 
 
But not only in the planetarium, you will learn a lot. Also in its surroundings you can walk along the nature trails. The first planet, with 6.5 km long and 13 stops with descriptions, depicts a reduced path from the Sun to Pluto. The second path is called the Galactic Path. There are 12 stops, the scale of which is 1:180 and the length is 9.5 km.

If you plan to visit the planetarium, it is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On weekdays from 9 to 3, you can watch a movie in the digital planetarium or watch the exposition here. At the observatory, observations will be conducted from 8 a.m. in the evening. On Saturdays from 2 p.m., your kids will come to their senses from 3 when you can gaze at the sun and a program in the form of a fairy tale is prepared in the digital planetarium. Various programs will be broadcast on the digital planetarium from 18:00 to 19:30, and night observations will start at the observatory from 21:00. And even if it is cloudy, you will experience a fascinating spectacle while projecting the starry sky in a small planetarium. 
 
The Hradec Planetarium and observation deck are located in a quiet location on the outskirts of the city, in Novi Hradec, and offer views of the town in this beautiful district.
